Play

Andrew is getting better and better at playing. He has been experimenting with where he plays and what he does.

If you have met Andrew, you might know that he is mostly physical. He is a jumper and a climber and a runner and a tumbler. And that definitely comes through when he is playing. His new favorite pastime is taking the couch cushions and creating forts and jungle gyms and trampolines. It's imaginative. It's good exercise. I'm just hoping that he won't transfer this skill to grandma's couch cushions.

Earlier this week we got a new chair for the living room. We had to rearrange a few things to make it work and at the time had no idea we were making more places to play. I stuck Andrew's big box of jumbo legos behind the chair as well as a basket of books. And now those are his favorite things. He loves getting to things that are hard to get to. He crawls behind the chair, builds a tower of legos and brings it out to show me. Surprise!!! I was building a tower this whole time!!!

Good work, buddy!

I love hearing about Andrew's play, and watching it. He is so creative and independent in his play. I've been thinking about play a lot lately.
Have you seen this site? http://nifplay.org/opportunities_home_md.html
I heard the founder (I think) interviewed on NPR. I would recommend downloading the podcast. It's enjoyable. http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/play/index.shtml
If nothing else, definitely watch the slide show about animals at play!

It looks like the second link is getting cut off. I'm going to try this again, and add a return so you can see it all.
