awake

This morning I was laying in bed wondering how to get up. I was trying to remember how I normally get out of bed. It has always been hard for me to get out of bed, no matter the time I do it, and at this point in my life I get up at an hour too scandalous to reveal. I think that information might shock and offend, so I will keep it secret.

Anyway, I lay there thinking, what does it? The hot pot of tea? The little warm hugs? The shower? A doctor once told me that we all have stress in our lives...it is what gets us out of bed in the morning. So I lay there thinking about stress. My to-do list. It's really not that stressful today. I could hear Andrew and Dave in the living room having their morning time. That wasn't stressful either.

Then I heard Dave start the shower. That means I have about 7 minutes to do my While Dave Is In The Shower Chores. I jumped up, started water for tea, heated up the iron, made the bed and ironed our clothes for the day.

And then I realized that I got out of bed.

Is getting out of bed hard for you?
What helps?

It's funny. I'm totally a morning person but I do have a hard time getting out of bed. I don't even hear alarm clocks so Eric has to wake me up. We have a short prayer we say right away so he knows I'm awake. Usually I have to think about what I will eat for breakfast. An author we like call it the "heroic minute" that minute when you decide to overcome whatever is keeping you in bed and get up.

Screaming babies usually works, although it does not make for a good start to the day =)

at this point it is a crying child that bolts me out of bed.... but the idea of a good run gets me out almost as consistently.

I cuddle with my kids, talk, and read books until one of them gets restless (we do the family bed thing and Chris is gone at 4 a.m.). Then I think about the things I need to get done before I go downstairs for my morning smoothie. (-:

P.S. You iron AND make your bed every day?! Impressive!

See, it's more like getting to bed is hard for me. If I get sleepy on the couch, I have to be really uncomfortable (like bladder bursting) to make it to the bed. Hence the brushing teeth problem.

I love mornings.

I love mornings. On the weekend its the thought of hot coffee, an hour or two to read a book, (although today it will be finishing report cards)and the mewing kitty that get me up.
