yesterday

The sun came out and chased us to the Botanical Gardens. The cherry blossoms were practically edible. And that's not pica talking. So beautiful.

As the snow is starting up again here, I am filled with joy at seeing those gorgeous pictures. Absolutely stunning.

I'm no botanist but I'm pretty sure those aren't cherry trees. I'm bing nitpicky and bringing it up because we have those same trees in DC and I'd love to know what they are because they are so beautiful. Cherry trees come earlier--even in New York--and they aren't so bright pink. They have more delicate blossoms. These trees in your picture look more like rhododendron--but they're trees. Anyone know what they are?

Q, They are definitely cherry trees, but probably a different variety. The gardens is having their Cherry Blossom Festival this weekend and that photo was taken on the Cherry Blossom Esplanade.

Totally cherry.

But, I know what you mean. They do look differently in your parts.

I think it is a Japanese variety that this garden features. But, I guess I thought all Cherry Blossoms were Japanese....

I just got paranoid and looked it up on wikipedia, and the cherry trees there look different (way more DC and way less Brooklyn Botanical Gardens). Here is the BBG website link with the kind of cherry trees the BBG's have:

So they are cherry, but a specific, showy variety.

ok....off for naptime.
