a.a. milne
When Andrew and I watch Winnie the Pooh I like to think about the characters and who they remind me of. And, I'm sad to say, that Rabbit reminds me of me. I'm not proud of this. I would rather be like Christopher Robin. I mean, that kid is really nice. Or Kanga. What a good mom. But, deep down I know. I'm Rabbit.
When Tigger messes up Rabbit's well laid out, well labeled, well cared for garden, Rabbit (rightly so!) gets really upset. He gets so upset that he wants to take the bounce out of Tigger. I can see myself taking that kind of drastic action.
When Pooh's rear end gets stuck in Rabbit's house because Pooh ate too much honey, Rabbit is annoyed, but makes the most of the situation. He decorates around Pooh's tush to make it look like part of the decor. Again, that is exactly what I would do.
The thing is...Rabbit is hard to like. No one dresses up as Rabbit on Halloween. No one has Rabbit sheets on their beds. So, it is with resigned acceptance that I admit my identification with Rabbit.
Andrew however is Tigger through and through. I'm guessing most 3 year old boys are. And I have to admit, I have my days when I want to take the bounce out of Andrew. But, as with Tigger, it just can't be done. And honestly, Rabbit has a lot to learn from Tigger. And Tigger from Rabbit for that matter. Really, they make a good pair.
Which of the characters do you identify with?
And I think this picture of Andrew should go in a folder called "The Funniest Rice Family Pictures".

Hmm. Eeyore.
I can only relate to Kanga! Does she count?
Of course she does!
I'm for sure Eeyore.
I think Andrew looks like a worn out Tigger in that picture.
TTFN.
I was going to say Kanga too - just like my sister!
Although Robyn...I can see a-lot of Rabbit in me too! I get annoyed when things aren't just the way they are supposed to be!
I think almost all of my closest friends remind me of Rabbit. I think it makes sense that no one dresses up as Rabbit for Halloween or has Rabbit sheets because Rabbit is a decidedly adult figure -- the responsible one, the tending one, the organizer. By the time you are old enough to get why Rabbit is essential, you're pretty much too old to be dressing up as Rabbit for Halloween or using Rabbit sheets. Everyone on Through This Door pretty much reminds me most of Rabbit, except maybe Melissa--and that's perhaps only because I've spent most of my in-person time with her in my early twenties, before we'd really gotten going with our Rabbitiness.
What! I don't want to be rabbit either!
Oh dear.
But that picture is priceless!
I was thinking...are all the characters male except for Kanga? I certainly have my Rabbitness, too. And I love honey like Pooh.
I just realized that half of my comment disappeared right before I posted!
I think I said that I'm not very familiar with the series, so you'll have to fill me in on who's who.
