heat and quiet

Summer is here. I say it every year and I will say it again, Summer Is Hard.

I asked my mom, a native of North Carolina, if there is any way that Nordic roots could have snuck into my genes. I mean, heat really does me in. And it doesn't even have to be that hot. Anything above 80 and I am sapped and irritable. And the thing is, no matter what the temperature is, I have 2-3 people depending on me for things like food. Even when it is hot, they want to eat. Explain that, my friends.

And what makes it especially hard is the lack of relief. We have two window units for our a/c which I feel guilty about running all day, so I don't (unless it's like 100, then I do). We have no yard, no hose, no pool. We DO have sprinklers at the local playgrounds. So I expect we'll be frequenting those streams of water, but the heat still just feels like a weight that I have to carry around until fall.

This year I am trying to tackle this obstacle head on. I will do my best not to swelter away this summer. But, I just want to say, it's hard.

So, I have been a little quiet around here. I am still doing and making, I'm just having a hard time stringing words together to write about it.

How do you manage winter when you're stuck inside all day and have to spend 1/2 hour bundling everyone up to go outside? Winter is what kills me. But I hear you about the no-yard. Ugh. I'd kill for a little grass.

It was nice of Andrew to step in and make a batch of cookies for everyone -- you know -- give you a little break. ;)

I'm with you, Robyn! Even the 70's are starting to push it for me. I can't wait for the fall!

Oh Danielle, I love being stuck inside. I am such a homebody that the winter weather is a great fit for me!

I am right there with you about summer. We have a yard but in the summer, we never use it. It is just too hot in Texas to do anything. I go from a/c house to a/c car to a/c business...and do not spend much time outdoors at all. Just makes me irritable and grouchy and stinky sweaty! Ugh!

What about getting some small-ish fans? I feel much less guilty about the electrical load and yet moving air feels so much more refreshing.

I have 2 of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001707LPY/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=304485901&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00022AP1K&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0EV7712A9Q4B4QWM9PG3 and they have gotten me through 3 summers so far. Love them.

What?! It has been cold and rainy here for weeks. Atticus said today, "I think the rain should go to jail."

Cute cookies.

I am so jealous! We had only 7 days in June without rain. The fireworks are rained out tonight and for the next week? Rain everyday!!! I'd kill for a sunny 80 degree day!

Oh, Robyn I hear you. I hate the heat also. And the little place I live in was built without air conditioning also...in the Valley in Southern California...ugg! I love it but think this might be my last summer dealing with this. I have to plan my whole day around the cool-ish mornings and evenings. I make plans to find cool things to do during the hottest of the hot. But I don't have all those people depending on me, so I can spend the whole day reading at an air conditioned cafe if I want -- and I frequently do!
The biggest bummer is that I'm a homebody, too. I miss my little house during the summer!
I'm so sorry and I say give all those people some popsicles and call it a day!

I am the same way when it comes to heat! I love sun! I hate humity. I hate the stuffy feeling. I like warm days with a cool breeze. To be honest I actually enjoy a cool October day picking apples or pumpkins.

I make lots of easy salads in the summer and call it a day. Crock pot meals are pretty good too. Fix it and forget it!
