a new friend

One of things that Andrew really struggles with is making friends. He's just not sure how to do it. He likes other kids, but really doesn't know what to do around them (insert mother guilt here for keeping him home so long). His favorite thing to do with other kids, is run with them.

There is a little girl at school, let's call her H. On the second day of school H greeted Andrew in the hall by name. Andrew hugged her and they both fell down crashing into some cubbies. Which, by the way, is so very Andrew. And, H didn't seem to mind. (!)

Every day when we get to school H comes running over to Andrew yelling his name and they begin a game of chase. They run laps around the tree laughing and chasing each other. Andrew was out three days last week with a nasty cold and yesterday H said to Andrew, "Andrew. You know how you weren't in school a few days last week? Well, I just wanted to tell you that I really missed you." And Andrew smiled and looked at his feet. And then they started up another round of chase.

One day her grandfather told me how much she loves to run. "She can run as fast as any of the boys!" he told me proudly. Well, H, Andrew is the friend for you.

Today as I was walking home after dropping off Andrew for another day at preschool I was thanking my lucky stars that H is in his class, that she likes to run, and that she isn't intimidated by Andrew's energy. If I let myself get carried away, and I think I might, I can convince myself that H is an angel of the smallest size.

I hope that she is one of many, many friends for Andrew.

In other news: I made another apple pie with a spooky Halloween twist. And I pulled a (very clean!) acorn squash out of my washing machine yesterday thanks to Isaac's careful assistance with the laundry.

Came to visit, as part of Shimelle's class. I love the fabric houses in your header and the lovely story you posted today. For a long time, I thought my kids would get along with anyone the same age, but then realized that there are some kids with whom they connect and some they don't.

I'm so happy to hear that Andrew has found a friend who is just right for him. It's so hard to be a mom worrying about our boys, so it's gratifying when things work out exactly as we'd like them to.

Your pie is adorable and I laughed out loud about the squash!

Hi, I found you via Shimelle's Blogging For Scrapbookers forum and I was drawn to you because you live in NYC (one of my fave places), you're a SAHM (like me), you have sons (I have 1 son) and you scrap! Pretty perfect, really! I'll ve visiting again and hope you manage to stop by my blog, if and when you have time.

Shimelle is a scrapbooker I am taking a class with. She is having a "Blogging for Scrapbookers" class and I couldn't resist. Hoping to make things rockin' awesome around here. ;)

I love when kids make friends! I love to hear what they talk about and what they have in common. It's so sweet that H told Andrew she missed him.
