Season of Peeking: week 2

Here is your Holiday Sneak Peek for this week. I am really enjoying this challenge. I am trying to get an interesting photo that doesn't completely reveal what the objects are. Sort of thinking along the lines of optical illusion. Should be a good exercise in my photography skills! This one won't be revealed until after Christmas! Mwah-hah-hah!!!

Also, I want to talk about donuts. And not about making them. About buying them. And not from little mom-and-pop donut shops in my neighborhood. I am thinking about buying donuts from Dunkin' Donuts.

When I was growing up, my family would often buy a box of a dozen donuts for breakfast on Sunday mornings. And I loved the donuts that reflected the season. Orange icing with black and orange sprinkles for Halloween. White icing with red and green sprinkles for Christmas. Pink icing with pastel sprinkles for Easter. Thinking of it now my heart feels all sentimental and squooshy.

I'm wondering what my boys will look back on and get squooshy feelings about. The Cauliflower Gratin we had last night for dinner? Or maybe the oatmeal rolls I made a few days ago? Or even the cakes and cookies that flow in a continual stream from my oven? I guess it's true. My boys are not lacking for sentimental sweets. And still, that comfort is not enough to convince me to avoid holiday donuts.

Holiday goal: Just buy the box of donuts already.

They look like little donuts! Donuts really were on your mind!

Or little scrunchies. Please note, Robyn: Hair crunchies are OUT. Please do not make hair scrunchies for your friends and family!!! ;)

Being a bit of a southerner, I'm a Krispy Kreme girl myself. We used to live down the street from one and could smell them baking at 5 a.m. on a really windy day! We'd wait for the Hot Doughnuts Now sign to turn on and POUNCE!

Krispy Kreme donuts finally arrived in my local supermarket about a year ago. Before then you had to track them down in London. They are still a bit of a novelty here, and I really love them. They seem more healthy than English donuts which are VERY different. They are ball shaped, deep fried, very doughy and usually have raspberry jam in the centre and dusted in granulated sugar - Yum! They say it is impossible to eat an English doughnut without licking your lips! It's true!

It's so true, what you say. So many people assume that our kids need to have the same comfort foods as we had as kids. Maybe comfort food for Atticus and Enzo will be kale smoothies, since we have one almost every day! (-:

But, speaking of donuts. We used to have coffee and donuts at my grandmother's every Sunday morning. They were usually cider donuts, and we'd dip them in melted butter and sugar! Yum!

I also think of Sunday school when I think of donuts, because I feel like there were always donuts there.

I haven't had a donut in a LONG time. But, sometimes if we're on the road and stop at Dunkin' Donuts, I ask for one chocolate munchkin to go with my tea or coffee.
