party day!!!

Oh. My.

So, my friends, the weather report tomorrow, no matter how many times I check it, stubbornly forecasts not only rain, but thunderstorms. And although I bought kites for each family, and am fully aware that kites + thunderstorms has some serious educational potential...it's just not the kind of party I was hoping for.

And so, last night, at 8:30, I made the big decision. Move the party indoors? Nope. Better. Move the party up a day. I called the guests and ran it by them and it worked for everyone. What are the chances?

So this morning I boogied in the kitchen and had all of the food finished by noon. That's not the only good news. Dave's been home all day (he got back from Norway last night!) and took Isaac to the pickle store to pick up some fancy pickles, which meant I had time to myself to pull everything together! Then, Dave brought home more pickles than I've seen in my life AND a sleeping Isaac...who, by the way, is still sleeping!

Could it be? Could I have a well rested birthday boy? a well rested mama? perfect weather? delicious food? Could this party really pull together so smoothly? This has easily been the best party prep day ever! Maybe the best day ever! And the party hasn't even started yet!

I seriously cannot believe my luck with this one.

So, for dessert, I made these Homemade Hostess Cupcake Sailboats. Chocolate Cupcakes with a marshmallow filling and dark chocolate ganache frosting. Surprisingly easy and oh so yummy!

Hoping my luck continues and this works out to be a great party!
Wish me luck!

Normally I don't like to brag too much about how I'm one of your lucky readers who gets to know you in person, too. But I just have to say that after years of reading about your boys' birthday parties I am so glad I'm finally close enough to go to one! Margaret just came in and asked me to button her party dress and I LOVE PICKLES! The cupcakes look pretty good too.

Something about today is just so productive. I just finished refinishing our dining room table . . .
