slow change



So, my friends, I have to admit that the whole wheat bread was not a hit with all Rice Family Members. I sent the bread to school with Andrew three different days in three different ways and each time I would find the bread sad and lonesome in his lunchbox after school.

The rest of us seem to be on board, though... as long as it's smeared in cream cheese or butter. ;)

But, I'm feeling a little stubborn about the whole thing and am determined not to give up. My plan all along has been to try another batch of whole wheat bread every other week and make bread with white flour on the off weeks. So, this week: bagels. Next week: try again?

We'll see how it goes.

Maybe you need to wean Andrew onto the wholewheat products gradually! I tend to make 'half and half' bread - either half white and half wholemeal flour or half white and half seeded flour. Seems to be a hit with everyone!
Those bagels look so tasty, can I order one to go with ham and cream cheese please?

Ah, I've been wondering how he got on, bless him. My son has finally begun to eat toast with jam (jelly), and small pieces of French baguette.

Also, I usually add a cup of oatmeal to my recipe (uncooked, although leftover oatmeal or cream of wheat make wonderful additions) as well as random seeds for texture (usually flax, but also soaked bulgur wheat and sesame seeds). Do you feel compelled for the 100% wheat, or would another grain work for you? Oooh, have you ever tried anadama bread??? I have an amazing recipe for that one--big hit. I mean big. :)

My kids have issues with the whole wheat stuff. Right now I can get them to eat a 50% white, 50% whole whear and/or mix grain combo. Bit they won't go any higher on that
