victory

My approach to summer has shifted in the last week. A week ago I felt a little beaten down by summer's heat. I felt overwhelmed and panicked and just plain defeated. But this week I have rallied. I have decided to take a warrior's approach to summer.

I think one the biggest reasons why summer is so hard is that it takes my energy and replaces it with that yucky, groggy feeling. I need a snap of cold air to get me going again...but that cold air is often hard to come by. So not only do I feel uncomfortable and sweaty, but I feel like I can't get anything done. And for this stay-at-home-mom, who has found a careful balance of how to do this job without feeling lonely and bored, getting something done each day is my ticket to success. It's what makes this gig work out so well.

So, I've been getting up early again. I've been getting things done. I've made bread and brownies. I've cleaned house. I've done laundry and have been scrapbooking up a storm. So, I guess I'm saying, I've been doing the things I usually do, but in 90 degree heat.

And it makes me feel downright victorious.

Watch out, Summer. This battle is ON.

Robin, what time do your kiddos get up? What time do you have to get up to get all that done?
oh, and did you have issues with andrew getting up and turning on the bedroom light when he shared a room with Isaac?

Danielle, my kids are late sleepers. Well, sometimes. It's 8:30 right now and Andrew is still asleep. Isaac though was up at 7. If I get up at 6, I usually get at least an hour, sometimes 2 to myself. When I really want to get a lot done (like last fall when I was making that city quilt) I get up at 5:30.

"did you have issues with andrew getting up and turning on the bedroom light when he shared a room with Isaac?"
nope. ;) Sounds like Brice is up to some no-good brotherly antics. Andrew doesn't turn the light on. If he gets up before Isaac he just gets up and comes to our room...or where ever we are. Andrew's actually a pretty roommate. Though, we'll see what happens when we get them bunk beds. Yikes!!

Wow, what a superwoman! I like to stay in bed until the very last possible moment!
BTW, your coconut bread recipe is going to be my photo of the day.

Great idea! I love the mornings. I can get so much more done and enjoy it. Glad you are finding a way to deal with the heat.
