1983

I got around to using one of the photos I nabbed from my mom's album. This is what I wrote for it:

I can remember exactly when I got this doll.

I was six years old and it was the day before we made our annual trip to Ocean City. These dolls were hard to come by because they were wildly popular. So popular that stores couldn’t keep them on the shelves. I assumed I would never get one.

And then one day, out of the blue, my parents gave me one.

It was not my birthday. It was not Christmas. Gifts given without occasion were rare in my family. So to receive a doll I didn’t expect, on a day not normally marked by gifts was a double shock of joy.

I remember trying to sleep that night, but I couldn’t. I was too happy to sleep. I lay there completely unable to believe that this doll, whose name I’ve since forgotten, was mine.

The next day we went to the beach, doll in tow. And I felt like I would burst with happiness.

Have a lovely weekend!

That is lovely. And what a brilliant idea! I need to start something like this with my mom's memories of HER old pictures! Thanks!

The photos you gathered of yourself are so darn cute! I can totally see Andrew in you. :o)

Carrie's Cabbage Patch Doll was named Meryll and she still has her in a box somewhere, along with all the doll clothes I sewed for her.

PS: I just did a post about the weather and I dedicated it to you. :o) xo

Those were the days! I remember that I had to act excited when I got mine because the only one my mom could find was a boy cabbage patch kid. Recently, we found a preemie that my sister had and now Sophia plays with it all the time. I'm gearing her up for our new real baby by letting her feed the doll!

Just last night I came across my Cabbage Patch Doll's birth certificate: Naomi Lesley, born Nov. 1st in the Cabbage Patch. "Suitable for Framing" I remember being so excited that my mom found one with freckles like me. I also had a preemie, Fritzie Claire, who smelled perpetually like baby powder. I loved those dolls! They're so much better than my students craze for Bratz dolls!!!

Awww... My Cabbage Patch is named 'Elizabeth Steffi.' Then I had another on named 'Kari.' Ones birthday was on Oct. 1st, one was Nov. 1st. I see a pattern. :) I wouldn't trade them for the world!!
