done and done

After 10 years, 6 apartments and a few months of pulling things together, Dave and I now have a grown-up bedroom. No more of the Fresh-Out-Of-College look for us! We are the real deal. Things match! There are neat things on the wall! There is a real bed!

Frankly, it makes me feel like a million bucks.

So, since we last discussed my bedroom, Dave and I ventured to Ikea (where I said I would never buy furniture again! Their things fall apart too easily!). Though, walking into the store, I was soon seduced by low prices, clean lines and the easy take-it-home-right-now, instant-gratification-feels-good system. Within 30 minutes (and lots of bed testing by our eager, overtired bed testers) we had a new bed picked out and were ready to rock and roll.

On the way home from Ikea, as I pictured the new bed in the space, I realized I had to paint the bedroom. The walls were white. The bed is white! There is going to need to be some contrast! So, after psyching myself up for painting, pouring over color swatches online, I decided I wanted either a soft grey or a soft beige. I found a color called "beige grey" and thought, "perfect! the best of both worlds!" So we hurried to a hardware store and bought a big can of 'beige grey'.

Turns out though, as these things sometimes do, that 'beige grey' really means 'purple'.

After trying my darndest to like the expensive paint we bought, I could not. So, back to the hardware store we went where we bought, 'crushed rock' which is not purple at all. It's more of a beige grey.

And there you have it! The final installment of our redecoration of the bedroom. Fascinating read, no?

Let's review, shall we?

Bedroom, last fall, too much burgundy, Fresh-Out-Of-College look

Bedroom, this spring, testing a fabric headboard, getting closer and closer

Bedroom, now, Robyn Is So Happy.

You have to really look close to see that the walls are painted. But they are! See how the bed is white and the walls are not?!? See?? See???

And we cleared out some furniture and have this wall with one piece of furniture, one little boy and lots of open space. Which in our apartment is luxurious!

It looks so restful, I love it. Now you have made me think about doing our bedroom - nah, I am going with the Chatsworth decorating program

It's beautiful! So, so lovely! But... I'll have to finally see it in person to truly be able to confirm. Ahem.

I kind of think that Ikea furniture has improved since when I first starting buying it (in college!). So I think you should forget your impressions about Ikea and enjoy your nice, grown-up, do-it-yourself bed frame!

BTW, is there a story behind the pretty fabric pocket (the one holding flowers) hanging from the entrance to your bedroom?

Mama V!! You really have an eye for detail!

yup!

My mom made that bag for my wedding. It was filled with flower petals for the flower girl to carry. It is made out of two of my great grandmother's handkerchiefs.

Neat, huh?
