redefined

I have a friend that is very cool. She works in Children's Television. She designs characters for children's television shows. No matter what your stance is on TV, you have to admit, that is a cool job. She is a snappy dresser and frequently goes to functions to network. She is very cool (but don't worry, she can be a little nerdy too...I mean, she is friends with me).

Anyway, she uses an ibook. She has come to our apartment before with her laptop in tow and whipped it out to look something up. She looked very cool. Laptops are cool. I can't figure out if they are cool on their own, or if my impression of them is informed by my stylish friend.

Right now, I am writing on a laptop. An ibook. And I can't help but think I must be just a little cool merely because I am typing on a laptop. Every time I have to use the 'mouse' (which is really this little screen that you scribble your finger on to control the mouse) I feel like my cool friend. This must be what she feels like. This feels nice.

While on this high, I am trying not to remind myself that the reason I am on a laptop in the first place is because my son put coins in the CD drive of our computer and it is at the mac shop getting a new CD drive. I try to forget all of that, because, well, it is not cool. And I have a good thing going here. I want to maintain it.

Last night I met a friend of mine (going out at night, cool point=1), at a chocolate bar (um, cool points=36) in a posh neighborhood (cool points=3). I barely recognized myself. What is going on? I am now a woman that uses a laptop, goes out at night to neat places like chocolate bars?!?!

This might be a whole new me.
I just might be redefining myself.

Can you sense a difference?

Hmm, is NY rubbing off on you?

Which chocolate bar? I see them popping up all over Manhattan lately. But I've never been in one!

It was called "The Chocolate Room" on 5th in Park Slope. Amazing. You might not believe it, but they have a lot of chocolate!

Man, what I would do to feel cool again! Just isn't happening these days in the Northeast Kingdom.

A chocolate bar? Very cool. What did you order?

oh Loralee, I had it all planned out in advance. During dinner I said to Dave, 'I hope they have a lot of chocolate." and he assured me they would. Then on the drive there I was thinking the thing I need most is a piece of flourless chocolate cake. And then when I got there, they only had one piece left. I was thinking of also ordering one of their many hot chocolates, but I thought I would end up jittery and dehydrated, so i went with water instead. It was so good. If you like chocolate...

Wow. Next time we're in Brooklyn we are leaving the kids at home and going there.

I guess we better make sure to have a husband around on our next visit . . .

But it's not because I need to feel cool. We all know how cool I am. I just cleaned out my spice cupboard . . .

CHOCOLATE BAR? Who in their right mind would want to go to a chocolate bar?

Gross.
