I don't think we're in Brooklyn anymore.
We might even be in Kansas.
I have been feeling a little tired of all things urban and wanted a jaunt in nature. So this morning we headed to a Salt Marsh near us. It was not far away. It was not a long trail. And we had a great time. A perfect little 'nature outing'. All without leaving Brooklyn.
There was one main gravel-y path and all of these little hidden paths through the reeds. So we explored all around, climbed on some rocks and found a good walking reed.
When Andrew would get tired, Dave would hoist him up on his shoulders. At one point, Andrew was on Dave's shoulders and Dave and I were holding hands. Andrew leaned forward, pushed our heads together and said, 'now kiss.'
Such a match-maker, that one.

This is cool. As much as I love urban living I need to get away sometimes, too. This incidentally, is part of the reason we hate suburbs because they make it so much harder to "get away." But Washington actually does a pretty good job of having little spots of nature scattered in and around the city. Our equivalent of Central Park might feel even more secluded because it's a deep valley. There's a cool island on the Potomac. And we have the Arboretum. I also love that we can get to the Blue Ridge in a couple hours (once we get through all the McMansions). Anyway, glad you found a little spot in Brooklyn!
What beautiful straw hair...
I see your son doesn't have his mother's dislike of public smooching. :) It looks like a great walk. I can identify with that longing to get out of the city as spring approaches.
I really love the second to last picture of Andrew walking in the tall grass. The texture of the grass next to the smooth sky and way Andrew looks like a man in a little boy body is so enigmatic. It should be the cover of a coming-of-age novel. You take such good pictures.
Loba, I know right? So funny!
Thanks Erin! Come here!
These pictures are amazing; should be on mugs! or calendars. Or screen "savors". We may never see dirt or grass again. I wonder if Erin knows that Island Pond set a record low of -36 Fri. AM.
Wow Miss Vicki!
My poor dad in Island Pond.
So cute! We did a nature walk today, too- and Atticus wanted US to kiss! I'm feeling like we have a lot of weird parallels in our lives.
P.S. Our nature walk involved walking in over a foot of snow, though. I admit it was very pretty, but I'm ready for it to go away now.
Beautiful pictures, Robyn. So nice.
I propose you ask Dave to use the camera now and again. Then we can see you in the pictures more often. That would be nice, too.
cute tummy!
