pie, pieces and paint
First up: mini pecan pies. So, in the cookbook I always talk about there is this recipe for pecan pie bars. It's basically a shortbread crust with pecan pie filling smeared on top. But, as sometimes I just aim to make things harder, I decided to make mini pecan pies using that recipe and my mini muffin tin. The trouble is, that since they are so teeny, I'm sure I eat more than I should. But those pecans have such good protein! Can't be all bad....
Next up: Mommy School. We've been on for school this week and it has been great. Seriously. Great. We both have been loving it. He occasionally gets cheeky with me and pretends not to know something (like I'll ask him to circle his name in the morning letter and he'll circle his last name and crack up. oh my.), but for the most part it's been great. My favorite part right now is our math games. I bought him these pattern blocks for Christmas. I used these with my Kindergarteners back in the day and thought they would come in handy. Right now he sorts them by shape/color into little cups. Then we count how many are in the cup and record that number. So simple, but it's neat to see how he does it. And it's been hilarious teaching him to say "trapezoid". I love that word.
And loving mommy school has made me wonder if sending him to preschool next year is really what I want to do. And, it is. I want him to be with other kids more (I am such a hermit!) and I feel a lot of pressure being the sole person he interacts with all day, everyday. I just wonder if it is rich enough for him. AND, I want a little break now and again (say, 3 days a week? 2 hours at a pop?). AND, I can still do Mommy School with him. That was a big realization for me. Sending him to preschool doesn't mean the end of this good stuff.
Now to find the school and get him in.
oh, Brooklyn, you make some things so hard.
