bowls of spaghetti, here we come!

So, I've made my fair share of quilts, but oddly, I don't really do much real quilting. Here. Let me break it down. When I make a quilt, I usually do a lot of applique (cutting scraps of fabric into shapes and sewing them onto pieces of other fabric, seen here) and I do a lot of piecing (sewing scraps together for a more geometrical look, seen here), but I don't do a whole lot of quilting. Quilting, is when you have the finished top, the batting (that white fluffy filling) and the quilt back all sandwiched together. Then you sew through all of the layers. I usually just following the blocks I've made, but you can get pretty fancy. Some quilters sew flowers or stars or swirls or what have you.

Well, when I decided to make some quilted bibs for some of my friends with babes, I decided to really quilt them. Now, all I did was sew straight lines about an inch and half apart, but it was really rewarding, contemplative work. There was something oddly reflective about it. And it gives the little bibs a more professional look. Makes me want to open an Etsy shop, ahem.

And, in the spirit of tooting my own horn, check this out! This bib has a black front and a light blue back, so when I quilted it I have black thread on the front...

and white thread on the back. A Made In Brooklyn first. And to think! You were here to see it!

Robyn, I don't understand. If you sewed a sandwich of three layers together, how is the thread black on one side and white on the other side?

I think you did a wonderful job on the bibs, however you did it. They have a very fun, modern look to them.

Definitely, Etsy-worthy.

I often use a different color thread in my bobbin to give the same effect only because I'm too lazy to fill a bobbin with the color thread I need! Oh well...

The bibs look awesome! How do they tie in the back? Velcro? String? And I love how you used the bottom edge of that rocket fabric on one of those bibs. You've got an eye, kid!

And I agree with Firefly (since, as you remember, it's my goal to keep bugging you about your own etsy shop)... DEFINITELY etsy-worthy.

Oops -- I now see the ties. Nice!

I also like the scalloped edges on some of them.

Too cute.

Firefly, the machine uses the thread from the spool and the thread from the bobbin to sew, so if those two sources are different colors, then one color will show on one side and the other on the other side.

tricky, tricky.

Mama V, all this talk of sewing...I need to see some things you've made! I think you need to start a craft blog. Enough is enough.

If you aren't going to start the Etsy shop right away, could I still buy one of these? My cousin just had a baby girl last week, and I have been trying to figure out a gift to send by mail.

What would you charge for one of these puppies?
