summer nights

One night last week I went for a walk after the boys were in bed. It was wonderful. The air was fresh and cool. The light was beautiful. And there were kids everywhere. The playground was teaming with families squeezing what they could out of these last hours of daylight. I decided I want us to be one of those families.

So last night, after dinner, we piled the dishes in the sink and brought our cantaloupe stained boys to the playground. The energy felt so different. It didn't have the restless frustration from the heat of the day. That edge was replaced with a breezy, easy going pace. Light and fun. It almost made up for not having a yard.

Next time I'll remember my camera.

That's so great--I've been making more of a concerted effort to take a walk or sit outside after the boys are in bed--it is such a lovely time of day. The smells and colors and energy are all so different.

That cake looks wonderful. Yum.

I love that you went to the park with the boys in the evening, in summer the best time for me is early in the morning or later in the evening. I bet the boys loved it. I also like the look of that cake and was hoping you'd posted the recipe ;o)
