getting there

I'm nearing the end of this project. But, the end is turning out to be the hardest part. And, honestly, I'm downright stuck. I've made all of my buildings. I want to make some trees (you know...those trees that grow in Brooklyn) and I want to make a skyline that includes my bridges (Brooklyn and Verrazano). But before I do those two things, I want to figure out the big picture. What will the final piece look like? How do I want to lay it all out? And that my friends, is giving me a headache.

I've tried laying it out several ways and it just seems like things get lost. You can't see the details because there is too much to look at. I had a vague picture in my head of a black skyline with colorful buildings in front. But I've made so many buildings that the skyline would end up longer than my wall to hang it on. We'd have to move.

Anyway, here are today's featured pieces:

There is a huge Middle Eastern community in my neighborhood. Which means we get great Middle Eastern food. I made a local Middle Eastern restaurant, Karam's. I wasn't sure what to put in the window of Karam's. A swarma? Baba Ghanoush? I decided to try to write "restaurant" in Arabic. But I could not find what that looked like. So, this window either says "food" or "arabic" or nothing. Anyone know? Zenub? Emm? Anyone?

And some of the local sweet shops. Choc-oh-lat is where I get a lot of my baking goods and I'm becoming a regular at Caffe Cafe.

And that's where we're at my friends. Hopefully soon I can give you a better idea of the end result...once I have a better idea of the end result.

What's your grand total now? Buildings? Trucks? Signs? Other?

I think you should tell Dave that you have to move to make space for your city quilt.

How about a 2-sided city quilt?! This way you can get them all in! One side night, the other side day! You can flip it around throughout the day! The boys would love it!

Yes?!

Didn't think so...

(Did I just read the word "circumcision" in the house window?! The Bible is so funny!)

I know!!! Look too close at some of these doors and windows and you could read a lot into this quilt! When I am making it I just look for chunks of text that isn't broken up too much...and I don't really read it first. ;) Lots of fun surprises in there, I'm sure!

maybe a city quilt a couple city pillows? City pillows would be a cute accent on the couch or chair. or a really big city floor cushion?
The buildings are adorable and you just have to use them all!

Love the new additions, Robyn. I've been wondering what the end result is going to look like too -- no pressure or anything [wink]. I'm sure you'll come up with something fabulous and I can't wait to see it!

Robyn i love it. I vote for one long bridge and then just stud the bridge with buildings and tress- like a banner. It doesn't have to fit on one wall or include all the pieces. Andrew and Dave and Isaac can continually swap them. Oh no, where did my shwarma go?
