someone's gotta do it.

And in our family, it's Dave. Now, I'm not downplaying my work. I do important stuff, all day long and it's good and hard and wonderful and stressful. But, if it weren't for him doing what he does, I couldn't do what I do.

I'm really proud of Dave's work. Dave is an archivist. He specializes in archiving "moving images", like film. He builds databases, organizes information, and makes systems for preserving tapes. He's great at what he does. And he loves it. His work really is the perfect fit for him.

Anyway, I decided that I needed to make a scrapbook page that explains the work he does now to our boys. His company hired a photographer to get some photos of the employees, so I stole one of those photos. And I printed blurbs off of the company's website. The blurbs explain the company, Dave, and one of the clients that Dave works with. I tried putting those blurbs on the page so it didn't look like you had to sit and read through all of it if you didn't want to, but it's there, documented, if you did. I'm really pleased with how it came out.

Around the edges I wrote:
Your dad knew he wanted to be an archivist while he was still in high school. He fell in love with Silent Film and knew he wanted to work with old films. He doesn't exactly work with old films now- he works with tapes and digital media and it is the perfect job for him. He loves it. I hope that one day you both find careers as fulfilling to you as your dad's is for him.

BIG NEWS!!!
THIS IS HUGE!!!
YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT!!!

Tomorrow marks 3 years of Made in Brooklyn and I am celebrating with a Give-Away like no other! It really is fantastic and I'm sure you'll want to pinch yourself when you see it. I've been pinching myself for weeks just thinking about it. So, be SURE to check in tomorrow to celebrate with me and enter this Once-In-A-Lifetime opportunity. I have high hopes that people will speak up and finally comment already (like you, Lorie! and Jo from my Dad's work!) to be entered into the Give-Away. Prepare yourself for awesomeness.

Yes, Dave is awesome (and I love the page - how many of us ever get our jobs documented like that? if all of mine were on one page, it would include knives), but I'm anxious to learn more about the giveaway. I'm there.
