Isaac

It's still all so new, but it seems like our change in routine is showing me new sides of Isaac. Andrew is in school a lot longer and Isaac and I have time together when Isaac is awake (Andrew's school hours used to overlap with Isaac's nap time). And I can feel some shifting because of that.

Isaac has not had a lot of time to play when Andrew was not around. So seeing him play by himself has been fascinating. It turns out, that Isaac too, enjoys building and playing with blocks. Today he took out the jumbo legos, built a tower, and then when he was done, he put the legos back in the box and put the lid on. I wish he had thought to clean up the magnetic letters he scattered all over the dining room.

It seems like he is trying out his sea legs. Filling the void that Andrew's schooling created by becoming the New Builder. Because, honestly, someone has got to do it.

I made 2 dozen bagels this morning. These babies go fast, so I doubled the recipe and plan on hiding half of them in the freezer behind the ice cream. We'll see if they figure it out.

I love that you live in a city known for its bagels, and yet you love and appreciate baking enough to want to make your own! You're awesome like that.

And I'd love to hear updates over time about this latest shift in your home! Neither of my boys know how to play without each other anymore, it seems! Next year is going to be so interesting (challenging?) for Jesse when Lucas goes to Kindergarten next year! Or, if Isaac's example shows, maybe not??

Does Isaac talk about Andrew when he's gone? He probably enjoys the time alone with you!

Wow, those looks so yummy. We recently got into bread making. Once we're a little more comfortable, I definitely want to give bagels a try!

It is funny because Abby and I have a new relationship now too. We go shopping, do errands, eat lunch together, play a little. I let her do some independent play. It seems she is always looking for her brother, but I enjoy our time alone to get to know each other.

Now my boys on the other hand, they don't know how to be apart. Two peas in a pod. We go to play dates and they play with other kids, but are always together. Same thing at school. Well they are best friends!

Those bagels look delish by the way!

I think it's lovely when you can spend time on your own with the 2nd child. Andrew will have had a long time on his own with you before Isaac arrived and now it is Isaac's time to have you to himself. Time to get to know each other on a one to one basis and time enough for him to miss his big bro' while he's at school and so appreciate his company all the more on his return. I think you will all benefit from this!

So, what's your word for the year?? I'm waiting....

So funny, Danielle! I'm surprised you remembered! I have not felt New Years-y at all this year. I just don't feel like pushing myself. I still feel a little bit like I am in survival mode and am just coming out of it now. I've thought about my word for the year being "sweatpants". What do you think?

Sweatpants is the best word, if only comparable to the word BOWLING. :)
