Let's talk about Lunch!

Because, let's face it. It's all about lunch right now. For better or worse, it's what I've chosen to neurotically pour myself into as a way of getting through this big change.

Well, first off, yesterday went great! He warmed right up to his teacher (by, ahem, showing her his lunchbox!) and she reported that he did great after I left. He followed along with the routines and rolled with the punches. He came home exhausted (it's a 5 hour school day!) and famished (I didn't pack enough lunch!?!?). I am more and more convinced that this is the right place for him and he will get so much from this program.

We are still borrowing a friend's lunchbox, but the one I ordered is pretty similar (if not exactly the same...). It's sleek and cool, but overall, adorable. Today's lunch is: peeled clementine, 3(!) pickles, slices of kielbasa (we have a great Polish deli near us that makes great kielbasa. Andrew calls it "Spicy Circles") and a little container of craisans. I made him two sandwiches with cream cheese and grape jelly that I cut into little circles (remember...going for cute here). And to drink: water. Poor kid.

Yesterday I included a little note...but I didn't today. I'm thinking I'll just put in little notes every now and then.

So, that's the scoop on lunch. Awesome, right? ;)

Today, as I was dropping off Andrew, one of the teachers in his class saw me and said, "Are you Andrew's mom?" "Yes!" "I loved his little lunch thing!" I laughed and said, "Thanks! Me too!"

I'm not exactly sure what kielbasa and craisans are, but the whole package looks fab! My DS isn't keen on bread, so I am currently working on dinosaur-shaped toast and sandwiches!

Awww ... I miss doing cute little packed lunches. I used to love cutting the sandwiches into shapes with different cutters! I sense that Andrew is going to be the kid who everyone else goes home and says 'why can't I have a lunch like his?'!

cute circle sandwiches!
i have been packing samuel's lunches in this same bento box for 3 years now and it has held up so well. somehow, it helps the lunch-making process to be more fun, don't you think?

glad the new school situation is going well for you all. i'm not sure what your plan is for elementary school, but have you checked out PS 372 (inclusion public charter in gowanus)? love it.

I love those things!

Atticus goes to preschool just one day a week- also 5 hours. He spends a lot of time outside, so maybe he is extra hungry. But he eats a crazy amount of food. Crazy! I spend a decent chunk of time Sunday afternoon just making his lunch and would hate to do it every day! He likes when I write notes, too.

I'm so glad you documented his lunch..I was curious what you were going to pack him. I really dislike packing my own lunch, but I think if I had such a great lunch box -- I might enjoy it more!

Thanks for posting the link. I saved it for the time I have to make lunches! Your lunches are great. I need a lunch lesson I think. At least I have a couple more years before I need to learn! Glad Andrew likes lunch. The boys always come home from school and tell me it makes them hungry and thirsty. Thinking is a lot of work! Glad Andrew is doing well at his new school.
