Getting Lost

We get lost in Queens in a lot. The layout of the streets just don't make sense to us yet. But yesterday, when we went to Queens, we got lost on purpose.

Andrew's maze phase is back in full force and this weekend we met Tess and friends at a 3 acre corn maze at the Queens Farm Museum. I had printed out an areal photo of the maze a few days before our outing, and even though Andrew swore he had found the best path to take, we still managed to get pretty lost.

All throughout the maze there were mailboxes with clues and pieces of the maze to collect.

And if you got really lost, there were these tubes to talk in with folks on standby to give you more clues. Andrew got to one of these tubes and said in it, "Hi! I'm Andrew!" The tubes weren't terribly helpful, but they were a lot of fun.

And an hour and a half later, after we finally found our way out, we added our names to the board of victors.

Then we relaxed on the grass for a while.

It was a great day and a great maze and it left us all exhausted. If you are thinking of doing a corn maze this year I have a few helpful tips. Bring snacks and water. Go to the bathroom before entering the maze. And don't follow Isaac. We ended up following Isaac a lot, mostly so we wouldn't lose him, but he's not terribly good at corn mazes.

Wow, that's quite an elaborate maze! Glad you guys had fun - and your pictures are adorable! Can't wait to see those on a layout.

PS: I LOVE Andrew's shirt! ;o)

Next time tell Andrew about the little trick I heard about following the right wall to get out, both on paper and in person (though I'm now seeing that stalks of corn don't seem to make the best "walls!"). I'd love to know what he thought about how it felt to be inside a maize/maze vs. what it feels like to always draw/see an aerial view.

So many shots that I like here. Love the one of smiley Dave and Isaac, as well as the one of you, Andrew, Kirsten, and Tess on the ground. Everyone looks so laid back and happy.

We did a maze today and I have come to the conclusion we are not maze people. We might be puzzle people, but not mazes. Andrew was hot. Abby fell A LOT and cried A LOT. Tyler had to go to the potty. We kept finding the beginning and then when we wanted to find the beginning we couldn't find our way out!
