Christmas Spirit: found

At the beginning of this month it didn't feel like December to me at all. I was just going through the motions, trusting my calendar, and plowing through my to-do list. But sometime last week a Christmas feeling flickered to life.

There are two things specifically that I love about Christmas. One of them is feeling closer to friends and family. There is something about buying gifts and writing out Christmas cards that I just love...because it makes me feel closer to my peeps. In fact, I first felt this year's Christmas spirit when I was filling out my 5th Christmas card. I just love Christmas cards. I love writing out notes and dropping them in the mail and thinking about them getting spread out all over the country.

The other thing that gets me at Christmas is nostalgia. I read Andrew Santa Mouse last night, a Dill family classic, and it brought up all these little Christmas memories. I thought about the little fake tree we put in the family room (the big, real tree was reserved for the living room...so it could be in front of the big window) and the funky tin foil star at the top. And I thought about sitting at the top of the stairs on Christmas morning while my parents zoombied around the kitchen, taking what seemed like over an hour to make their coffee. We couldn't come down until they were ready. And, I've got to say, they sure took their sweet time.

And so, I'm there. I'm in it to win it. I am settling in and enjoying the holiday and calling this one merry.

I'm right there with you. I've been feeling overwhelmed and stressed and not very merry. But this morning, I took my class to a concert and the songs totally got me! I loved hearing White Christmas and Silent Night and I found myself wishing this season-- which I had previously been wishing away -- could last a bit longer.
