cupcake 1 and cupcake 2

This morning I spent some time looking in the mirror at my brand new wrinkles. There are lines around my eyes that no matter how much lotion I put on them are stubbornly here to stay. I thought I would always look 12, and although I still mostly look 12, if you look closely, my eyes give me away.

It makes me wish that my reaction at seeing the effects of age went something like: "At last! Evidence of my maturity and wisdom! I have worked so hard for these aesthetic improvements and now all that hard work is paying off!" And then, I could call friends and relatives and share my good news. Instead I wonder and scheme on how to make them go away.

All of these thoughts on aging are coming at a good time. Tomorrow I turn 31. And I made these chocolate cupcakes. And I think we will eat them for breakfast! I mean, the recipe is called "Chocolate Chip Muffins" and muffins are breakfast, right? I just might need someone to come over around 11 tomorrow to rescue me from a sugar crash...so, anyone available?

I might even share a cupcake if you come at just the right time.
See you then!

You sneaky, sneaky woman. Didn't I get in trouble with you for not sharing these kinds of things far more in advance?

When I saw this picture, I gasped, and Enzo said, "MMM, MMM!" They look super yummy.

I have wrinkles, too. When I see pictures of myself from college, I notice how smooth my skin looked. Chris says he's going to stop smiling so he doesn't keep getting wrinkles around his mouth. (-:

Melissa,
Enzo is welcome to come join us for breakfast tomorrow! I'll make sure he gets lots and lots of sweets! ;) So cute!

I don't think Chris stands a chance. Doesn't he practically smile for a living? Or is he the kind of comedian that keeps the straight face?

Oh, Vanessa, I meant to tell you, tomorrow is my birthday! ;)

Funny, I was just looking in the mirror, thinking "I'm not going to be able to pull out these gray hairs anymore...." The hard part is that growing up, I thought of people with gray hair and wrinkles as old, and well, we're not old. Nor will we be in 20 years. But our kids will think of us that way, no matter what we do! I think we need to just not fight it, because the older I get, the more beautiful I find people older than me. Wear your experience and years with pride--you are, have always been, and always will be a beautiful woman.

Happy birthday!
