easy and oh. my. goodness.

The last time I posted a recipe here I received an unparalleled outpouring of love. Which makes typing out recipes (a chore that I am NOT fond of) so worth it. So, my friends, here we go again! This one is easy, yummy and very versatile.

Candy Bar Shortbread Bars
from A Passion For Baking (of course!)
1 cup softened unsalted butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 1/4 cups flour
pinch of salt
4 oz candy bars

Mix together the butter and sugar. Add the flour and salt. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 pan lined with parchment paper (the parchment paper will make the bars very easy to get out of the pan and will make the pan a breeze to clean). Bake for 25-40 minutes at 325 until lightly browned.

Meanwhile, chop up some candy bars. The recipe recommends Toblerone, but since Fresh Direct was fresh out of Toblerone, I bought a bag of mini Snickers to use instead. You really could use any chocolate based candy bar that you want or like or want to like. See? So very versatile! Imagine this with Almond Joy!?!?! or Mr. Goodbar?!?!

Ok, so, anyway, after the shortbread is baked, take it out of the oven and sprinkle the chopped up candy bars on top. Wait a few minutes for them to get all melty. Then smear the chocolate all around to cover the shortbread, cut it into bars and stick it in the fridge to 'set'.

So yummy! Enjoy!

Because what candy bars really need...is more butter! :)

Thanks for adding recipes. I'm a fan.

I'm not a big baker and hardly ever even turn on my oven -- but I think even I could do this! Sounds Yummy!
