Team Craft

Sometimes I have to remind myself that Dave is one of Isaac's parents too. Isaac is so like me in so many ways, and Andrew is so like Dave in so many ways, that I often feel like we each got one. But Dave insists on sharing them. ;)

Isaac and I worked together one rainy afternoon to make the thank you notes for his birthday gifts. He carefully painted his papers orange, thinking about each recipient and how generous they were to him. Well...I'm not really sure that's that what he was thinking...but I'd like to think it was. Isaac loves to paint and draw and color and write more than Andrew ever has. He just makes a terrific partner in craft!

Did you choose orange paint to match his hair?! If so, brilliant move!

I always feel like I should send some sort of thank-you (call, note, etc.) whenever I receive a thoughtful thank-you note. I have trouble figuring out where the cycle ends! (Do YOU expect some sort of acknowledgment of a thank-you card sent in the mail?)

So... thank you for the thank-you! It was adorable!

I got the mail today and showed Tess the card and picture. She was thrilled, pointed at Isaac smiling, and then insisted on carrying his picture for the next 10 minutes. At some point she had a beloved book in one hand and Isaac's picture in the other, and she had to give one up in order to take my hand. She thought for a minute, looking at them both, and then handed me the book. :)

What a great way to involve Isaac in the process of showing gratitude. Sending thank you cards seems to be a dying art - I've had several cases recently where gifts were given (wedding, baby shower...) and have never received an acknowledgement for the gift.

On the other hand, I made a CARD for my grandmother for Mother's Day and received a hand written thank you note from her within a week. :o)

Deb, I hear ya! My grandmother often writes me back when I send her thank you notes. I love it! I love that kind of mail.
